Directions for installing HP J4580 Printer driver in Guest House

Windows Instructions:


    • If you have already connected the printer to your computer with a USB cable, UNPLUG it and wait for the installation wizard to prompt you to plug it in.

    • Insert HP J4580 DVD and navigate to the folder for the appropriate Driver for your Operating System.

    • Double-click the installer

    • In most cases, you should follow the on-screen prompts and accept all of the defaults.

Installing and using the printer with Lion

You will experience the best performance and functionality if you download the latest HP software from Apple Software Updates . Follow these steps to update the software.

  1. Click the Apple menu (
  2. In the Software Update window, select the software you want to install, and then click Install .
  3. NOTE: Install all available updates for best performance and functionality.
  4. When prompted, enter your administrator account name and password.
  5. After the software updates complete, restart the computer (if required).

For earlier versions of OSX:

  1. Insert the HP J4580 DVD and navigate to the folder for the appropriate Driver for your version of OSX.

  1. Double click the installer to mount the disc image and follow the on-screen prompts to finish installation.

Windows driver installation instructions:

  1. Follow the link above, then move to step 2.
  2. Click on the "Drivers and Software" button.
  3. Choose your Operating System from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click the download link corresponding to the "MX860 series MP Driver Ver. 1.02 for network" (probably the first download link in the list)
  5. Scroll down and click "I agree – Begin Download"
  6. When the download finishes, Double-click the downloaded EXE file to decompress it, then installation will start automatically.
  7. Double-click the downloaded EXE file to decompress it, then installation will start automatically.
  8. Windows Vista and Windows 7 users will need to give Canon permission to install.
  9. If it asks how you will connect, choose "network" follow any prompts and accept the defaults.



OSX driver installation instructions: 

Click HERE to download the Canon MX860 printer driver.

  1. Make sure the Add Printer utility in System Preferences is CLOSED before you begin.
  2. Follow the link above, then move to step 2.
  3. Click on the "Drivers and Software" button.
  4. Choose your version of OSX from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click the link corresponding to the "MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.51.2…" (probably the 2nd download link in the list)
  6. Go back to the previous page, scroll down and click the link corresponding to the "Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 3.2.0 (Mac OS X 10…" (probably the 2nd link under "Software"
  7. Double click the CUPS driver to mount and install the driver.
  8. Follow the prompts and accept the defaults. 
  9. Then double-click the "Canon IJ Network Tool" to mount and install the tool.
  10. Follow the prompts and accept the defaults.
  11. The tool should automatically open the Printer utility. 
  12. At this point, you should be able to find and add the printer from the list. 
 
These directions differ slightly depending on which version of OSX you are on.
